A welcome reception will be held on Sunday evening, June 23, 2019 from 18:00 to 20:00 in the Exhibit Hall located in the Universal Center. This event is open to all registered conference attendees and companions. Welcome reception is included in your registration fee. Monday June 24: Reception for Women in Engineering
PPPS will host a reception on Monday evening, June 24, 2019 from 18:00 to 19:30 in Sun & Surf III–V. This event is open to all registered conference attendees and companions. Reception will include food and drinks.
The speaker at this event will be Dr. Janet Barth. Her talk is titled Finding Our Voices - Gender Barriers in Science and Engineering.
Dr. Barth has been active in the radiation effects community for over 40 years. She was a lead radiation hardness assurance engineer for NASA space flight programs and supported the NASA Electronic Parts and Packaging (NEPP) Program, which focuses on the reliability of electronic parts for space programs. Ms. Barth was on the proposal team for the NASA Living With a Star (LWS) Program and served on NASA’s LWS Science Architecture Committee. She retired from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in 2014 and continues to support NASA programs as an Emeritus Scientist. At her retirement, she was the Chief of GSFC’s Electrical Engineering Division where she was responsible for the delivery of spacecraft and instrument avionics to NASA’s science missions, including the Solar Dynamics Observatory, the SWIFT Burst Alert Telescope, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, the Global Precipitation Measurement mission, and the Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission. She also directed the development of microwave and optical communications systems and suborbital avionics systems at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility.
Monday June 24: Decadal Assessment of Plasma Science Town Hall Meeting
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is conducting the Decadal Assessment of Plasma Science—Plasma 2020—with support from the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and the Office of Naval Research. Plasma 2020 will provide an overview of accomplishments in all fields of plasma science and technology during the previous decade; and provide guidance and recommendations for the coming decade on the most critical plasma science challenges whose solutions will lead to societal benefit. As with the prior Decadal Assessment, it is expected that Plasma 2020 will be highly influential in establishing priorities for plasma-focused agencies, both in the US and internationally.
This Town Hall meeting is an opportunity for PPPS attendees to be briefed on the Plasma 2020 process and to provide their perspectives on past accomplishments, future science challenges, opportunities to provide societal benefit, needed interdisciplinary collaborations, and means to enhance careers.

Tuesday June 25: PPPS 2019 – Night Out – Block Party
The PPPS 2019 Night Out will be on Tuesday evening, June 25, 2019 from 19:00 to 22:00 offsite at Universal Studios’ CityWalk. The Block Party features exclusive access to unique venues with live music including Bob Marley’s – A Tribute To Freedom with a live reggae band, Pat O’Brien’s Orlando with dueling piano players and CityWalk’s Rising Star with live band karaoke. The venue opens at 19:00. Roundtrip bus service will be provided for the approximately 10 minute drive across the street to Universal Studios. From there, it’s just a short walk through security and then to the venue. A buffet dinner and drink tickets will be provided. This event is open to all registered conference attendees and companions. Please be sure to purchase your tickets for a nominal fee of US$25 for conference attendees and US$50 for companions. Wednesday June 26: PSAC Town Hall
Join members of the Plasma Science Application Committee (PSAC) at our annual open forum business meeting. This is a great time to meet leaders of the PSAC Executive Committee, learn about our plans to host ICOPS conferences in Singapore, Lake Tahoe, Seattle, Santa Fe (our 50th year!), Beijing, and our next combined conference with Pulsed Power in Berlin. Bring your thoughts and questions to this short informal gathering.
Wednesday June 26: Young Professionals Symposium

Thursday June 27: PPPS Awards Banquet
The PPPS Banquet will be on Thursday, June 27, 2019 from 18:00 to 21:00 in the Seminole Ballroom. The dinner and ceremony following will acknowledge and present awards for our recognized, outstanding members and students in the pulsed power and plasma science community, as well as best student paper.
